Anix Lynch

Managing Partner, Expara

Biography

Anix Lynch is Partner of Expara –Government Saving Bank’s fund of funds running an early stage VC investment in SEA. She is a director of Peakengine (Fintech), a senior advisor of Crypto startup, a guest lecturer at Sasin MBA, an active speaker at Slush/Rise SCG/PTT/Disrupt University/Spark and a judge at TV reality shows Star 4.0 LINE TV/True channel.

Anix was a Vice President of MQDC, Chearavanont Family Office, where she focused on investment in AgriFood Tech, Real Estate Tech and impact investment. In 2014, she originated the concept of True Digital Park (Launched 2018) and the early draft of the innovative policy for Thai government (Launched 2015)

Before returning to Thailand, Anix previously worked as an investment professional in Tokyo for 10 years at the world’s largest PE fund MGPA-BlackRock(M&A), NCC -CBRE Investor (M&A). Apple International (Tokyo Stock Exchange IPO). As a native Japanese speaker, she received BA from Kyoto Ritsumeikan University and MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Nichapat Ark

Advisor, Openspace Ventures

Biography

Nichapat Ark is an advisor to Openspace Ventures (previously NSI Ventures), an angel investor, a startup mentor and Seedstars World Bangkok Ambassador. She has more than 20 years of experience in financial markets in Thailand. Her most recent post before she left her banking career was Executive Committee and Managing Director, Financial Markets for Standard Chartered Bank Thailand where she took part in driving the bank’s strategic planning and execution functions. Additionally, she was responsible for financial markets sales & trading, capital markets as well as asset & liability management for the bank. During her 10 years with Standard Chartered Bank, she spent 2 years in China as Managing Director of Financial Markets Sales based in Shanghai. 

Nichapat obtained her Master of Business Administration degree, majoring in Finance from Sasin Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and spent a term on exchange at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration at Assumption University, Thailand.

Andrew Lai

Co-Founder, SproutX

Biography

Andrew Lai is a co-founder and the Accelerator Director of SproutX, the world’s most active investor in early stage agtech companies.  With a $10m follow on fund, SproutX is Asia Pacific’s first agtech dedicated venture capital fund. SproutX currently has 19 active startup company investments in diverse areas of agriculture who have raised millions in funding and revenue.

Paul Ark

Managing Director, Digital Ventures

Biography

Paul Ark spent the first half of his career as an investment banker, working on IPOs, acquisitions, and private equity deals for global banks Deutsche Bank and Citigroup in Asia and New York, as well as boutique advisories Tonson Capital and Blackwood Ventures in Southeast Asia. He then transitioned to the world of retail by joining Central Retail, working on regional joint ventures and working on the company’s market entry into China and other Asian markets. He spent several years facilitating Apple Retail’s market entry into Asian markets, opening up flagship stores in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia, before joining Microsoft and advising on their China retail market entry strategy. Paul is also an active startup mentor and angel investor, having made investments in early stage companies in the United States, China, and Thailand, and currently manages the FinTech venture capital fund for Siam Commercial Bank’s Digital Ventures group. Paul earned his undergraduate business degree at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, and his MBA at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.

Sakunee Niranvichaiya

Co-Founder, Chiiwii Live

Biography

Dr. Sakunee Niranvichaiya is a co-founder of Chiiwii Live – mobile application, an online telehealth consultation platform.

She is a Dermatologist and a hair specialist, from Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Her work experience includes over 11 years working in Thai healthcare system, lectured, researched and published internationally.

She has seen many opportunities for improvement in Thai public health system. One of the major ones is a limited access to health information from healthcare specialists. Therefore in 2016, she co-founded the free Q&A web-board, where every questions be answered by a group of volunteered healthcare specialists. Moreover, in order to let people get access to consulting with healthcare specialists more efficiently, Chiiwii Live was established.

She led Chiiwii Live to win in many startup competitions. Above all that, Chiiwii Live had won first prize in “Start Jerusalem Entrepreneurs Competition 2017” which allow her to be part of an accelerator program in Israel.

Sam Promyotin

Executive Director, Bangkok Venture Club

Biography

Surawat (Sam) Promyotin is CEO/Co-Founder of STYLHUNT and Executive Director of Bangkok Venture Club (BangkokVC).  STYLHUNT is an e-commerce startup addressing social commerce unique to emerging and mobile-first markets, and BangkokVC is the largest accredited angel investor group in Thailand.  He graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and from Sasin Chulalongkorn Graduate Institute of Business Administration with an Executive MBA.

Susie A. Ruff

Founder, RUFF & CO

Biography

Susie A. Ruff is the founder of RUFF & CO. Business Innovation where she passionately works in the field of Health Innovation and tech solutions for Healthcare and Wellness. She has more than 25 years of experience, among others in leadership. She has held positions such as Head of Healthcare Innovation Centre, Head of Innovation and Tech Transfer, Head of Trade Department and Regional Export Sales and Marketing Manager. Susie has worked in both public organizations and private corporations such as The Capital Region of Denmark (Healthcare), The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Danish Design Centre.

Susie holds an M.Sc. in International Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School and has a global mindset. She has studied and worked in several countries, among others the USA, Spain, France and Argentina. She is the external lecturer at the 2-year full-time M.Sc. in Innovation in Healthcare at the Copenhagen Business School, Denmark.

Susie A. Ruff has completed several executive courses in innovation from Stanford University as well as the Advanced Management Program in Innovation in Healthcare from IESE, Imperial College and Copenhagen Business School.

Meet Our 2018 Speakers

David Brown

CEO, Techstars

Biography

David is a serial entrepreneur who has founded three startups and been involved with two others. He is one of the original founders of Pinpoint Technologies, Inc. which is now part of ZOLL Medical Corporation and provides solutions to the emergency medical services market. He was President of the company from founding through over $50M per year in revenue and over 250 people.

David later co-founded Techstars along with David Cohen, Brad Feld, and Jared Polis. He has been an investor and advisor to Techstars since inception. In 2013, he joined Techstars in a more active role, overseeing global operations.

David has a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. As a ski instructor in the past, David still enjoys hitting the slopes on a good powder day.

Kamran Elahian

Founder and Chairman, Global Innovation Catalyst

Biography

Kamran also serves as Global Innovation Advisor, 500 Startups; Founding Mentor, Unreasonable Group, and Unchartered; Advisory Member, UNICEF Innovation Fund; Advisory Member, Seedstars World; Founding Board Advisor, Harbour. Space University; Chairman, Advisory Board, Global Venture Alliance.

As an Innovation Catalyst, Kamran advises various governments on the needed transition from fossil-based economies to sustainable innovation economies. As a global high-tech entrepreneur, he co-founded ten companies, three of them failed (e.g. Momenta), six of them produced a total market cap of over $8B (e.g. Cirrus Logic). As a VC, Kamran co-founded Global Catalyst Partners with investments in the U.S., Japan, China, India, Israel, and Singapore. Underlying his vision for global philanthropy is the conviction that modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can be instrumental in dissolving barriers between nations and bridging the social and political differences among people. This vision was reflected in Schools-Online, a nonprofit he co-founded in 1996 to connect the world, one school at a time (6400 schools in 36 countries were provided with computers and access to the Internet) and merged with Relief International in 2003; Global Catalyst Foundation, co-founded in 2000 to improve lives through the effective application of ICT, and UN-GAID, a United Nations global forum that promotes ICT in developing countries where he served as Co-Chairman (2009-2011).

Joseph Lubin

Founder, Ethereum

Biography

Joseph Lubin is a co-founder of blockchain computing platform Ethereum and the founder of Consensus Systems, a blockchain venture studio.

ConsenSys is one of the largest and fastest-growing companies in the blockchain technology space, building developer tools, decentralized applications, and solutions for enterprises and governments that harness the power of Ethereum. Headquartered in New York, ConsenSys also has a global presence, employing top entrepreneurs, computer scientists, software developers, and experts in enterprise delivery worldwide.

Lubin graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He worked in the Princeton Robotics Lab, at Tomandandy music developing an autonomous music composition tool, and at private research firm Vision Applications Inc. building autonomous mobile robots.
As a software engineer and consultant, Lubin worked with eMagine on the Identrus project and was involved in the founding and operation of a hedge fund with a partner. He held positions as Director of the New York office of Blacksmith Software Consulting, and VP of Technology in Private Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs. Through these posts, Lubin focused on the intersection of cryptography, engineering, and finance.
Switching gears, Lubin moved to Kingston, Jamaica to work on projects in the music industry. Two years into his musical endeavors, Lubin co-founded the Ethereum Project and has been working on Ethereum and ConsenSys since January, 2014.

Grace Yun Xia

Principal, Jungle Ventures

Biography

Grace’s has over a decade of experience in investment, corporate strategy and business development across early-stage startups and Fortune 500 companies in both Silicon Valley and emerging markets in Asia. At Jungle Ventures she focuses on identifying innovative startups in Asia and cross-border investment opportunities.

Prior to joining Jungle Ventures, she was Senior Director of Corporate Strategy and Investment at Tencent. In this role, she focused on identifying strategic opportunities in emerging markets, building Tencent’s overseas product ecosystem through investments and collaborations with local partners; and overseeing the implementation of deals and capital deployment.

A Kauffman Fellow, Grace started her career as a management consultant where she advised clients in financial sectors. Grace has an MBA in strategy and decision science from Fuqua School of Business, Duke University.

Neal Cross

CIO, DBS Bank

Biography

Neal Cross is Managing Director and Chief Innovation Officer of DBS Bank and a strong advocate for innovative thinking and culture.

Cross is driving the bank’s innovation agenda regionally, as DBS moves to shape the future of banking, to enhance customer experience and better engage customers in the digital landscape. Cross has more than 20 years’ experience in technology, innovation, and financial services.

Working with internal stakeholders and external collaborators, he charts the innovation roadmap for DBS to enhance customer experience and better engages the bank’s customers in the digital landscape. On the back of our recent “World’s Best Digital Bank” accolade, Neal won the “Most Disruptive” CIO global award by impressing judges Steve Wozniak and Sir Richard Branson at the finals of the Talent Unleashed Awards 2016.

Previous to DBS, Cross was at MasterCard, where he was responsible for driving innovation as Vice President of MasterCard Labs in the company’s Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions.  Cross started working in the Asia time zone at Microsoft in Australia and later in Singapore as the financial services industry director.

On his weekends Neal lives in the Sumatran jungle where he has founded Hotel Orangutan, a social enterprise to help save the critically endangered Sumatran Orangutan and to give local villagers employment and education.

Maneerut Anulomsombut

CEO of Thailand, Sea (Garena)

Biography

Nok Maneerut Anulomsombut joined our company in March 2014 and has served as our chief executive officer of Thailand since March 2016. Nok previously served as our chief operating officer of Thailand. Prior to joining our company, Nok was a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group in Bangkok from March 2009 to February 2014.

Prior to joining The Boston Consulting Group, Nok worked at financial and fashion companies in Thailand. Nok holds an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

Pieter Kemps

Principal, Sequoia Capital

Biography

Pieter Kemps serves as an Investment Advisor at Sequoia Capital India. He is the Principal at Sequoia Capital. He was a Vice President at the firm in 2014 and focuses on investments in internet, mobile, software, and infrastructure across South East Asia. He works closely with Kfit, Sirion Labs, Gojek, Tokopedia, Zilingo and other portfolio companies. Prior to joining Sequoia, Pieter was at Amazon Web Services, where he was responsible for Amazon’s business with the leading VC’s, Accelerators, and the startup ecosystem across Asia.

Melissa C. Guzy

Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Arbor Ventures

Biography

Melissa is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Arbor Ventures with more than 20 years of experience in venture capital and as an entrepreneur in Asia and Silicon Valley.  As a thought leader in the global technology community, Melissa has been recognized as Melissa has been recognized as one of the Top 200 FinTech Influencers in Asia 2018 and one of the Most Influential Women in Tech in Asia. Melissa brings with her a unique set of global experience and perspective, with deep technological and innovation prowess anchored in an extensive international network.

Melissa serves on the Board of Directors of the HKVCA and is Co-Chair of the HKVCA Venture Committee. She also serves on the Board of Innovation for the Hong Kong Securities and Commodities Commission. She is a Hopkins Fellow and participated in the Women’s Leadership Program at Harvard University.

Prior to the founding of Arbor Ventures, Melissa was Managing Director and Head of VantagePoint Asia, a $4.5 billion venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

Melissa attended Wellesley College and received a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Florida. She is the author of the paper “Venture Capital Returns and Public Market Performance.” She has been a panelist on the Financial Times Top 50 Women in Asia and a guest lecturer on the Venture Capital Industry at the University of Florida, Hong Kong University, Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Peng T Ong

Founder, Monk's Hill Ventures

Biography

Peng is an entrepreneur who invests in entrepreneurs. He does so primarily through his role as Managing Partner at Monk&’s Hill Ventures — a technology venture fund based in Southeast Asia that he co-founded.
Peng was the co-founder and CTO of Match.com (acquired by IAC). After Match.com, he was the founder and CEO of Interwoven, which went public on NASDAQ and grew to a $10B market cap, before being acquired and is now part of HP.

After Interwoven, Peng founded Encentuate (acquired by IBM). Most recently, Peng was a Partner at GSR Ventures, a leading VC in China. Peng has also served on many boards, including SingTel and YY.com. He is currently the Chairman of SolveEducation!. Peng earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois.

Akiko Naka

Founder and CEO, Wantedly

Biography

Akiko Naka is the founder and chief executive officer of Wantedly, a social-networking service for professionals. Following its official launch in February 2012, Wantedly grew to 2m monthly active users and 25,000 corporates and has become the leading professional social-networking service in Japan. Prior to founding Wantedly, Ms. Naka was a growth co-ordinator at Facebook Japan, where she contributed to marketing and product development for Facebook in Japan. Before joining Facebook, she worked at Goldman Sachs in equity sales. Ms. Naka graduated from Kyoto University in 2008 with a BA in economics.

Michael Lints

Partner , Golden Gate Ventures

Biography

Michael Lints graduated from The Hague University of Applied Science in Management and Information Science and worked briefly as a project manager in NN Group, Netherlands largest insurance, and asset management company. His entrepreneurial spirit kicked in right after and he went on to start his own IT business specializing in Microsoft environments and IT project management.

He was the former vice chairman of the Economic Development Board Rotterdam which helped him built an extensive international network. In 2007, Michael founded his own venture fund focused on Dutch’s small and medium-sized enterprise to help them with capital financing, development and relevant support and strategy.

Through his earlier Venture in the Netherlands, Michael got acquainted with Golden Gate Ventures and moved his family to Singapore to join Golden Gate Ventures, as Venture Partner in 2013 to help with fundraising, strategic partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions. Michael has helped raised over $60M USD for Golden Gate Ventures and its portfolio companies and is now a Partner at Golden Gate Ventures since 2017.

Michael graduated from Financial Analysis for Business Valuation, and Private Equity and Venture Capital Executive course in Harvard Business School in Cambridge in 2011. He is a true believer in a work-life balance lifestyle and has completed marathons, cycling and Ironman races all over the world in his spare time and was recently appointed the Singapore ambassador for the top cycling brand distributor, Treknology3

 

Mike Peng

Co-Founder & Co-Managing Director, IDEO Tokyo

Biography

Mike Peng is a Partner at IDEO and the co-managing director and co-founder of IDEO Tokyo. In his role, Mike works with colleagues to set the strategic direction of the business in Japan, mentor designers, create new offerings, and lead client relationships and projects in Asia. Prior to Tokyo, Mike helped start-up IDEO’s New York office and lead its design research discipline. Mike has taught at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID). He’s also a visiting lecture the at University of Tokyo, Keio University, and Kyushu University. Mike graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in cognitive science and an emphasis in neuroscience.

Tiwa York

Founder, Kaidee

Biography

Tiwa York is the Head Coach of Kaidee (a.k.a CEO). He is passionate about changing lives through trading second-hand goods, startups, and building great teams. Along with a team of 5 awesome people, Tiwa founded an online marketplace which is now known as Kaidee in 2011.

Today, Kaidee is a C2C online marketplace with 200 thousand monthly sellers, listing 1.8 million items for sale and reaching 7 million people per month. In 2016, 2 million items were sold via Kaidee valued at over 2.4 billion USD. Tiwa has been recognized for his passion, his leadership, and his efforts to build the team and culture at Kaidee. Prior to his the current role, he worked in digital advertising with leadership roles in Admax Network and Omnicom Media Group.

Khailee Ng

Managing Partner, 500 Startups

Biography

Khailee Ng is a managing partner of 500 Startups, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm. Beyond investing in
Silicon Valley, 500 has set up more than a dozen funds in emerging markets, providing seed capital and growth
programs to countries in the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Since 2010, the firm has invested in over
1,800 startups in 60 countries, in line with its goal of developing an inclusive and globally connected innovation
economy.

With the firm, Khailee has led 180+  investments in Southeast Asian tech startups, including Grab, Carousell, and other
regional champions. Prior to this, he was the founder of Groupsmore (acquired by Groupon) and Malaysia’s largest
online media company, Says.com (acquired by Media Prima).

As every industry continues to be disrupted by new technology and evolving consumer landscapes, Khailee and 500
Startups specialize in discovering patterns of economic opportunity and investing in the entrepreneurs who will realize

Yinglan Tan

CEO & Founding Managing Partner, Insignia Venture Partners

Biography

Tan Yinglan founded Insignia Venture Partners in 2017, an early stage technology venture fund focusing on Southeast Asia. Prior to founding Insignia Venture Partners, Yinglan was Sequoia Capital’s first hire and Venture Partner in Southeast Asia. He sourced multiple investment opportunities for Sequoia including Tokopedia, Go-jek, Traveloka, Carousell, Appier (where he represented Sequoia on the board), Dailyhotel (where he represented Sequoia on the board), Pinkoi and 99.co.

Yinglan had also been a member of the elite Singapore Administrative Service, where he served in a variety of positions in the Prime Minister’s Office (where he was part of a team that managed a $360 million fund for innovation and enterprise), Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Defence. Yinglan was also the founding Director of 3i Venturelab China, a joint venture between private equity firm 3i (LSE: III) and INSEAD.

Yinglan has been named as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (2012 – 2017), a WEF Technology Pioneer Selection Committee Panel (2015-2017), Top “40 leaders under 40” by Prestige Magazine (2015), Milken Institute Young Leaders Circle (2016), one of 100 Leaders of Tomorrow by the St Gallen Symposium (2010), 100 Global Thinkers (2011) by think-tank Lo Spazio della Politica, a World Cities Summit Young Leader (2014), a WEF Global Agenda Council member on Fostering Entrepreneurship (2011-2013) and a Kauffman Fellow.

He also serves on the Singapore Government’s Pro Enterprise Panel and the Committee on the Future Economy’s Sub-Committee on Future Corporate Capabilities and Innovation. Yinglan is an Adjunct Associate Professor at National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. He is also a Strategic Research Innovation Fund Investment Committee Member at Nanyang Technology University, author of 3 books – The Way Of the VC (Wiley, 2009), Chinnovation (Wiley 2010) and textbook New Venture Creation – An Asian Perspective (Mcgraw Hill 2011). Yinglan was educated at Harvard, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon.

Cao Yin

CSO, Energy Blockchain Labs

Biography

Mr. Cao Yin is the Founding Partner and Chief Strategy Officer of the Energy Blockchain Labs, the world first company focused on blockchain technology energy and green finance application.He also is the Chief Expert of Blockchain of China Cinda Security, which is the IBD of China Cinda, the biggest finance asset mgt. the company in China.

Mr. Cao Yin is one of the earliest proponents of the energy Internet concept in China. He participated in the formulation of China’s national definition of Energy Internet and participated in the formulation and popularization of China’s National Energy Internet Action Plan as one of the leaders of the task force. Mr. Cao has written several books, including 《Development of Energy Internet》,《Introduction of Energy Internet》, he also has written a book <Internet+: National Strategic Action Roadmap> with Mr. Ma Huateng, the Chairman of Tencent Group.

Cao is China’s 9th E-resident member of E-Estonia project, he assists the Estonian Government to design and promote the Digital Nation action plan and the Estcoin plan. Cao is the Guest Lecturer of Beijing National Accounting Institute and Guest Speaker of Shanghai National Accounting Institute.

Cao is the key member of the Hyperledger China Working Group.
Mr. Cao is a well-known keynote speaker at multiple domestic and international energy, climate change, blockchain and cryptocurrency conferences. His point of views has been often published in leading industry and business media, covering topics related to the future energy system, carbon market, green finance, blockchain and cryptos insights, etc.

Gregory Perez

Design Director, IDEO Tokyo

Biography

Greg is a Design Director at IDEO Tokyo specializing in brand strategy, digital experience and communications design. Nico started OMNIVR, one of Indonesia’s first Virtual Reality focused company because he was astonished by the way VR is changing human and digital content interaction. Pongsagon Vichitvejpaisal, Ph.D., is a deputy director at Creative Digital Technology (CDT) international program at Thammasat University.

At CDT, he leads his VR/AR research lab focusing on mixed reality, 3D site scanning, interactive architecture visualization, VR and AR for simulation and medical training. 

His VR and 3D cultural heritage scanning projects were exhibited at SIGGRAPH Asia VR showcase and Digital Content EXPO Tokyo.

In 2011, Yansen, who is famously known for his short pants and bald hair, built KIBAR to
achieve a mission that many people think is impossible: all Indonesian should be able to feed themselves.
One way to do it is by helping other people to become entrepreneurs and starting their own ventures. This
the mission led KIBAR to focus on empowering youth who have the vision and the drive to create solutions
that bring meaningful impact through technology.
To further support and flourish more entrepreneurs, KIBAR establishes the foundation of
Indonesia’s tech-startup ecosystem by developing solid collaboration between the main stakeholders.
In 2014, KIBAR co-initiated Innovative Academy, a university-level tech startup incubator, with
Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta, the largest and oldest university in Indonesia. In 2015, KIBAR
collaborated with the City Government of Surabaya to run Start Surabaya, the first city-level tech startup
incubator in Indonesia.

In 2016, with the support of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology,
KIBAR initiated “Gerakan Nasional 1000 Startup Digital” (the National 1000 Digital Startups movement)
with a mission to create 1,000 high-quality startups by 2020 with a total valuation of US$10B. As part of
the government’s vision to build Indonesia as ‘The Digital Energy of Asia’, the movement aims to nurture
digital startups that are able to provide solutions to huge problems through mentoring and capacity
building.

Yansen also established collaboration and partnerships with global institutions such as GSVLabs,
French Tech Ticket, Hello Tomorrow, Seedstars World, and Betahaus. In the near future, KIBAR aims to
scale up by partnering with tech startup ecosystem players in 10 cities and 4 continents around the world.
Up until now, KIBAR has invested in 15 startups, which are Kreavi.com, Ziliun.com, Kratoon,
Lab Kinetic, and Telusuri.org to name a few.

Robert Lomnitz

Director, Bangkok Venture Club

Biography

Robert Lomnitz has been investing capital into early-stage businesses and emerging and frontier markets
for over 20 years, having started his career as a lawyer on Wall Street.

From 1999 to 2002, he worked in the technology industry in the UK during the first dot-com boom and bust,
managing firstly family office money and then the Corporate Venture Capital business of a UK LSE traded
company.

In 2002, he co-founded a UK asset management business which ultimately became Duet Private Equity
Limited ( www.duetgroup.net) and currently manages in excess of $2 billion of institutional money across a
number of emerging market funds.

Since 2009, he has been angel investing in the US and UK and moved to Thailand in 2015 to look for new
opportunities.

He is a Director of the Bangkok Venture Club, Managing Partner of BKVC Investments and is active in the
startup community in Thailand as an investor, advisor, and mentor.

Hian Goh is a Founding Partner of Openspace Ventures, a Series A venture capital fund focused on Technology and Internet companies in South East Asia. The fund has invested in 8 companies including Gojek, Redmart, Chope and Zimplistic, the makers of Rotimatic.

Openspace’s inaugural fund launched in 2014 is ranked by Prequin as the 3rd best performing VC fund in Asia for its vintage. Of the 15 investments in the fund 1 portfolio, 12 have completed substantial follow-on funding of over 2.2 billion dollars. The portfolio includes Gojek where NSI was the first institutional investor, Singapore fast fashion e-commerce player Love Bonito, as well as Indonesian consumer loan company Finaccel.

Prior to Openspace Ventures, Hian was the Founder of the Asian Food Channel (AFC), a 24Hour food and lifestyle Pay TV network, which was acquired by Scripps Networks in 2013.

Hian began his career as an investment banker and was a founding member of the Salomon Smith Barney Technology investment banking practice in Asia, (now part of Citigroup) in 1999.

Hian graduated with a degree in Jurisprudence (Law) from Trinity College, Oxford, and an MBA from INSEAD. He is also a Reserve Officer with the Singapore Navy and is a Board Member of the Singapore Science Centre.

Aukrit Unahalekhaka is the co-founder and CEO (Thailand) of Ricult, a venture-backed social enterprise that leverages machine learning and satellite imagery to help farmers in Thailand and Pakistan increase farm productivity and access affordable loan, helping lift them out of poverty. Ricult has been named the best Social Enterprise in Southeast Asia and Oceania in the Global Social Venture Competition, won the Fintech Disrupt Challenge organized by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and awarded Innovative Agribusiness by United Nations Industrial Developmental Organization. From his work at Ricult, Aukrit was named as one of Thailand Top Entrepreneurs Under 35 by the Royal Thai Government and one of ASEAN-Australia Top Social Entrepreneurs Under 35 by the Australian Government. Aukrit received a joint master’s degree in engineering and management from MIT where he was a fellow at the MIT Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship. Boonrat Lohwongwatana

Dr. Boonrat is a professor of metallurgical engineering at Chulalongkorn University. He has received numerous awards including both Thailand Young Metallurgist award and Thailand Young Technologist award from Princess Mahachakkri Sirindhorn, as well as applied research awards such as Research Award, and Innovation Award from the Santa Fe Symposium for jewelry manufacturing technology and Research Commercialization award. He has pioneered the 3D printing of biomedical titanium for orthopedic and neuro-plastic applications with fully customized design. The commercialization of research gave birth to Meticuly, a spin-off company that focuses on the platform to create on-demand devices for leading medical professors from medical schools in Thailand. Products that are currently in clinical trial stage include fully anatomical orthopedic devices that restore full range of motions and expedite recovery. The drop-in solution allow for minimally-invasive incision and short surgical theater time. Meticuly recently received the following awards: First Place of the Digital Venture Accelerator batch 1, and First Place at the 5th Seedstars Global Summit’s pitch corner.

Hassadee Pimsuwan

Founder, Treebuild

Biography

Hassadee Pimsuwan is a founder and software developer working at a 3D printing and Web3D development company, Treebuild. He began his programming career during first year in his undergrad by develop software to convert text parameters to generate 3D graphics on the web. Web3D Campus Visualization and established his first web development agency with his friends on his second year, later he moved to Munich to work with  Web3D company there and then moved back to create the Thailand first AR/VR-commerce website that works natively without plug-in by using X3DOM in his 4th year, and received the Best Poster award from Web3D Conference 2012 in Los Angeles with that project. After he graduated, he got hired by software development agency company in Singapore and he worked there for 1 year before moved back to Thailand and started Treebuild company in 2014.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems from Suranaree University of Technology with first-class honors in 2012 and currently pursuing his Master degree in Innopreneurship and Business Design. He is expected to receive his Master degree in 2018.

He has contributed to Mozilla projects since he was in second year of his undergrad in Thimble and Localization projects and now for A-frame by training and building community in Thailand especially in universities. Additionally, he has contributed to PrestaShop, an open-source e-commerce platform, X3DOM, an open-source framework and runtime for 3D graphics on the web, and OpenJSCAD, a tool for programmer to develop 3D model. His goal is to reduce the social gap and making knowledge more accessible for people and societies.

Paul Ark

Managing Director, Digital Ventures

Biography

Paul Ark spent the first half of his career as an investment banker, working on IPOs, acquisitions, and private equity deals for global banks Deutsche Bank and Citigroup in Asia and New York, as well as boutique advisories Tonson Capital and Blackwood Ventures in Southeast Asia. He then transitioned to the world of retail by joining Central Retail, working on regional joint ventures and working on the company’s market entry into China and other Asian markets. He spent several years facilitating Apple Retail’s market entry into Asian markets, opening up flagship stores in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia, before joining Microsoft and advising on their China retail market entry strategy. Dave Ng is a Principal at B Capital Group, a global venture capital fund with offices in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Singapore. Dave invests in fintech, consumer, enterprise and digital health, and leads the fund’s investments in Southeast Asia and US. Nawal Roy is the founder and CEO of Holmusk, bringing more than fifteen years of finance and strategy consulting experience to the helm of the company.  Prior to this, Nawal was Co-Founder and CEO of HelloPay (Rocket Internet venture), and a Junior Partner at McKinsey & Company. He has served as a Steering Committee member (Value Based Health Care) for the World Economic Forum, and co-founded Galen Growth Asia – The Asia HealthTech Connector.  Having enjoyed a global career spanning from New York to Tokyo, his close involvement with markets across North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, India AND China yields uniquely diverse experience in building next generation global companies.

Nawal carves out the strategic direction of Holmusk, leading from the front with round-the-clock hustle and infectious energy. Driving business development, partnerships and growth, his mission is to build a company founded on the commitment to solving some of the world’s greatest challenges in healthcare.

Biography

Robin Lee is the Co-Founder and CEO of HelloGold, which is a Shariah-compliant gold app. Robin is the former CFO of the World Gold Council and brings a wealth of knowledge and contacts about the gold market. He was the principal accounting officer for SPDR Gold Trust (‘GLD’), the world’s largest gold fund, which held over US$30 billion in assets under management. His WGC experience includes supporting the launch of the world’s first exchange traded, wholesale kilo gold contract and introducing a gold savings program with ICBC which generated annual sales of $6.5 billion.

Managing Partner, Vynn Capital

Biography

Victor is the Managing Partner of Vynn Capital, an early stage venture capital firm focusing on Travel, property, Food/FMCG, Female Economics and Logistics & Enablers. He was formally the Vice President of Gobi Partners and was with MAVCAP, the venture capital arm owned by the Ministry of Finance of Malaysia. His earlier career was with Willis Towers Watson, advising corporates, pension funds and sovereign funds on investment strategies. 

Victor was an honoree of the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 in 2017. He is currently the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysia Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (“MVCA”) as well as a CFA charterholder and a Mensa member
